'No proposal to extend MBBS course duration'

Chandigarh, February 13, 2014 Health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has clarified that that the ministry was not considering any proposal to extend the duration of the MBBS course. The ministry has also suspended its decision of one-year
mandatory rural posting for graduates before they could seek admission to postgraduate courses. The posting will not be mandatory for those appearing in postgraduate examinations for 2015-16 academic year. A Press Information Bureau release from New Delhi added that Azad met representatives of agitating medical students in Delhi on the issue. A letter has already been issued to the Medical Council of India detailing the minister's decisions, the release added. Hindustan times
