Haryana Teachers’ Eligibility Test (HTET) scam: Caught copying, girl says she got answer key for Rs 1 lakh

Fatehabad, February 5
Hundreds of aspirants have expressed concern over a girl’s claim to the police that she had purchased the answer key to the Haryana Teachers’ Eligibility Test (HTET), conducted on February 2, from a Rohtak-based person for Rs 1 lakh.

The girl was allegedly caught copying from a piece of paper at the Manohar Memorial College of Education examination centre.

The girl, a resident of Rasiwas village in Bhiwani, was booked by the Fatehabad police on a complaint lodged by centre superintendent Om Prakash. She has now been remanded in judicial custody.

The police are investigating the matter after the names of two persons surfaced during her interrogation.

During the level-2 examination of the HTET on Sunday, invigilators caught the girl allegedly copying from a key prepared on a piece of paper. Most answers in the key were found to be correct, sources said. “The girl revealed the identity of two persons — one who sold the key to her, and the other who helped her meet the person who sold the key,” said Gaurav Sharma, SHO of City Police Station, Fatehabad.

He, however, did not name the accused. He said a case under Sections 420 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code had been registered, adding that the accused would be taken into custody soon.

The recovery of the answer key has left the aspirants, who hoped to get job after clearing the test, in the lurch.

The test was conducted by the Haryana Board of School Education (HBSE) on February 1 and 2.

Anshaj Singh, HBSE secretary, Bhiwani, said the board had taken prompt action and lodged an FIR against the accused. It was now up to the police to bring the culprits to book, she said.
