FM accepts demands of DC office employees; union to continue protest

Punjab finance minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa has assured the agitating members of the Punjab Deputy Commissioner Office Employees Union (PDCOEU) that he would accept all their demands related to the finance department. On Thursday, PDCOEU members from all districts of the state gathered in Sangrur to hold a protest rally and gherao finance minister's residence. However, they had cancelled the gherao programme after Dhindsa called them for a meeting and accepted their demands including disbursement of pending
installment of DA and upgradation of several posts in SDM offices. However, the PDCOEU leaders have decided to go ahead with their scheduled protest rally in Amritsar on February 3 to pressurize the government for the other demands related to the revenue department. Talking to Hindustan Times, PDCOEU president Vijay Bahal said, "Our meeting with the Finance Minister at his residence on Thursday night was successful and he has given an assurance to accept our demands (related to his ministry) within next 10 days." "However, we will hold a protest rally in Amritsar on February 3, in which all members across the state will participate to raise their demands related to the revenue department", he added. When asked about extra burden on the state exchequer if the government implements their demand for upgradation of several posts in SDM offices of the state, he said, "After the upgradation of these posts, the beneficiaries will be eligible for a promotion and one increment, which would cost about Rs. 30 lakh to the state government". The pending demands of the DC office employees include recruitment for all posts in the 23 newly created sub-divisions of the state and increase in ministerial promotion quota for naib tehsildar from 2 to 10 per. "With no fresh appointments, the existing staff has to face repeated transfers and workload in the new sub-divisions. We will also raise these isssues in the Amritsar rally", he added.
