Food Inspectors merit list may be challenged

Food Inspectors merit list may be challenged

Chandigarh: Punjab government today declared the merit list of 4610 candidates screened on the basis of written test by splashing water on the hopes of 60,000 candidates, who had failed to appear in the exam conducted on December 15 for the selection of Food and Supplies Inspector in Punjab.

Those figuring in the merit list, 10 times of vacancies, would now have to appear for another exam on January 12 for the selection.

However, the development came as setback for around 60,000 candidates who were demanding to cancel the test and conduct a fresh one. They had argued that the government had taken a wrong decision to hold the exam at tri-city ie Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali. As over 2 lakh candidates who had applied for the posts reached at the tri-city and the additional influx of 2 lakh people caused traffic jams as a result of which around 60,000 failed to reach their respective exam centres on time.

Affected candidates said that only exam conducting authorities deserve the onus of blame for the mess and to rectify the fault they should have cancelled the exam to re-conduct the same by forming exam centres at each district headquarter.

Sources said that the affected candidates were now planning to move the court to challenge the result on the basis of ‘half-cooked’ exam.
