UP employees withdraw strike after HC interference

A division bench of Chief Justice Dhananjay Yashwant Chandrachud and Justice Rituraj Awasthi directed the state government and employees' organisations to sit and initiate a dialogue on their demands. The Court agreed to monitor the talks and stated that the strike period should be considered as employees' "earn leave" and action under the Essential
Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) would not be taken against them. The Court fixed December 3 as the next date of hearing on the matter. The strike by nearly 18 lakh state government employees to press their demand for removal of anomalies in salary structure and amendments in promotion policy and pension benefits began on November 11.
