PSTET exam a mere eyewash: Teachers

Jalandhar:The state government will be holding yet another Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) for the candidates on December 28. However, TET-passed teachers have already termed it as a “mere-eyewash”. The teachers have said that it is only an attempt by the state government to collect money and no outcome should be expected from it. The online registration for the candidates was started four days back and it will continue till the first week of December. Miffed over the state
government’s decision to hold yet another test for teachers, Deep Raja, the district president of TET Passed Unemployed Teachers’ Union, said that there was no fun in taking tests under the Right to Education Act when about 40,000 posts were already lying vacant in government schools. “It will be the third batch of TET. The test is taken by lakhs of candidates and not more than 5 per cent clear it. Still, after clearing the test, the candidates are unemployed in Punjab. It is the lackadaisical approach adopted by the state government due to which unemployment is increasing by the day,” rued Raghuveer Singh Bhawanigarh, General Secretary of the association. From the first batch of candidates, who cleared the test, about 7,000 teachers are still looking for jobs and from the second batch about 9,000 candidates are allegedly unemployed. The TET unemployed teachers have been saying that they be employed, especially when assurances have already been given by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Education Minister Sikandar Singh Maluka in the past. Deep Raja, a member of the association, said: “We have been demanding for our rights and recruitment process but the government officials are not ready to listen to our demands in a serious manner.”
