UT employees demand release of 10% DA before Diwali

On the call of Co-ordination Committee of Government and MC Employees, employees from different departments held a protest rally against the UT administration to demand immediate release of the 10% dearness allowance (DA) and bonus before the festival of Diwali, near the maintenance booth at Sector 23, on Tuesday.

The committee threatened to continue their protest if their demands are not fulfilled by the administration. Chandigarh Government Transport Workers Union, Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) Conductor Union, Nursing Staff Union, Government Medical College and Hospital-32, Electrical Workmen Union, MC Employees Union, CCET Employees Union, Public Health Workers Union, United Front Public Health Employees Union, Sports Department Workers Union and Chandigarh Forest Workers Union were some of the unions which took part in the
protest.

The Center has already released 10% additional DA for its employees, which is due from July 2013. The UT administration also has a budget allocated for the additional DA, but it has not been granted to the UT employees till date. Punjab government has also not granted DA to its employees due to non availability of finance.

The administration had agreed to release the installment of 8% DA which was pending since January this year on September 26. The development was significant as the Punjab government is yet to release the DA installments for its employees.
