Amritsar, October 15
Members of the Sikhya Provider Union, Amritsar, have threatened to go on strike from next month if the government does not implement Rs 4,300 salary hike.

The union president, Sukhwinder Singh Ajnala, in a meeting held here today stated that during a meeting held with education minister Sikandar Singh Maluka on October 12 it was endorsed to give the hike per month. He said Sikhya providers were appointed under Sarv Sikhya Abhiyan and they would be here as long as the SSA scheme was there. These teachers are given salary as per their qualification. For instance, graduate teachers get Rs
6,500, graduate plus BEd gets Rs 7,200 and teachers having masters with BEd receive Rs 8,000 per month.

About 470 Sikhya providers are working in the district and they have families to support. The agitating teachers gathered at Ram Bagh demanded regularisation of their services.
