If faculties in Punjab Technical University (PTU)-affiliated colleges are facing any problems regarding salaries, grades or any problems, they can directly approach me, and strict action will be initiated against the defaulting colleges. PTU vice-chancellor Rajneesh Arora said this during the inaugural function of the Inter-Zonal Youth Festival at Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institue of Management and Technology
(GGNIMT) on Tuesday. Arora said, "We have received a complaint from a college faculty regarding the non-payment of salary and after inspection, the college has been directed not to admit students in that particular stream for the next session. Moreover, a fine has also been imposed on the college for not paying salaries to the faculty of a department. Talking to Hindustan Times, Arora, said, "We have constituted a three-member committee (three professors from IIT Roorkee) for inspecting the colleges. If we receive any complaint from any college faculty, action will be taken against the college." When asked about the new dress code introduced by the PTU for convocation, he replied two years back we formed a committee to finalise the dress for convocation and a private designer had also designed the dress, it was not approved. "Now, students of Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology, (NIIFT) SAS Nagar have designed the dress and we liked it and the design has been approved and introduced at the convocation of Giani Zail Singh PTU campus Bathinda earlier this year. The idea was to introduce traditional Punjabi Phulkari patterns on scarves for convocation, as we want that students should know about the Punjabi culture. Further to provide exposure to the teachers teaching in PTU-affiliated colleges, we have decided to provide travel grants. Grants would be provided to the teachers, visiting abroad for presenting research papers, he added.
