Ludhiana, October 1
Against the “anti-education” policies of the government, the Government School Teachers Union held a protest outside Mini Secretariat here today. The teachers raised slogans against the government and alleged that the teachers of Punjab were being given a “step-motherly” treatment.

General secretary of the union Praveen Kumar and Patron Charan Singh Sarabha said the main demand of the union was to provide them with DA, pending since
January 1, 2013 and July 1, 2013. All the teachers on contractual basis must be regularised at the earliest. The schools, which have been given to panchayats and zila parishads, must be brought under the Education Department.

The teachers also said that for 30 students, one teacher should be employed and this ratio format should be considered in government schools. The departmental promotions should be given. The proposals to make “Adarsh” schools should be scrapped and improvement should be done at the ongoing government schools. Besides, teachers must not be asked to do other duties than teaching, demanded the agitating teachers.
