Ludhiana, September 12
The Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) Union today expressed contentment over the outcome of the meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal. The meeting was convened with the joint efforts of the district administration and the police, following an agitation held by the union recently.

The president of district unit of the TET union, Deep Raja, said the teachers were satisfied with the brief meeting and the Deputy Chief Minister has assured that their demands will be met soon.

“The Deputy CM and Bikram Majithia, Revenue Minister, have assured that a meeting of the TET representatives will be organised on Monday. We hope that our issues will be redressed soon,” said Raja.

He said it was the result of the efforts of the union that the Education department had put up the schedule for 5,178 posts of Rural Associate Teachers on its Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan website.

“From September 23, the department will start with the counselling process. The department also must fill the vacancy of as many as 690 teachers at the earliest,” said the president.

The TET teachers from across the state had gathered here in Ludhiana on September 8 to protest against the alleged apathetic attitude of the government. Scores of teachers had blocked the roads for four hours.

The teachers alleged that despite clearing the toughest exam (TET), they were not being given jobs.
