EPU blocks traffic in Kharar

Mohai  The Education Providers Union (EPU) of Punjab blocked traffic on National Highway-21 in Kharar for around eight hours while protesting in favour of their long pending demands on Saturday. Thousands of commuters had to face tough time due to the protest as long traffic jams were witnessed till late evening
. The protesting union members alleged that the Punjab government had not fulfilled their long pending demands for which they were protesting for the last four years. Addressing the members, the state president of the union Ajmer Singh Aulakh said that their main demand was to reguralise around 7,000 education providers in the state. Aulakh said that the government had been playing tactics in reguralising them despite fulfilling all the qualifications. Aulakh further said that they demanded that the education providers should be trained by allowing them to pursue their further studies, but the government is not allowing them to do so. “Now the government is applying the rules of year 2009 on us while we were selected in 2008 which is an injustice to all the education providers who are working on meagre salaries,” added Aulakh. The union members staged the dharna at 2 pm and it was in progress till filing of the news. No senior official of the district administration approached the protesting teachers till late evening. Meanwhile, thousands of commuters were stranded in the traffic jams which were witnessed due to the protest
