Punjab Govt must set up pay commission: Speaker

Fatehgarh Sahib, February10
State Vidhan Sabha Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal today said the Punjab Government should constitute a pay commission on the pattern of the Union Government for the welfare of its employees as they played a vital role in the development of the state.

While talking to mediapersons here today, he said he would take up the matter with the state government.

Answering a query on whether he would contest parliamentary elections from Fatehgarh Sahib constituency, he said he was a loyal worker of the SAD so if the party directed him to do so, he would.

Latter, while addressing a function organised by the Punjab State Karamchari Dal, he said the employees on their part should work with honesty and dedication for people.

Hari Singh Tohra, state president, Punjab State Karamchari Dal, demanded that separate funds be earmarked for semi-government and retired employees. He demanded that the government should remove the anomalies of the earlier pay commission, release arrears, regularise the services of daily wagers, regularly recruit in all the departments and that the minimum wages be Rs 10,000. He also demanded a regular policy for posting and transfers.
