BJP to back aided school teachers

Amritsar, February 14
State BJP chief Kamal Sharma has promised full support to the demand of the Aided School Teachers and Other Employees Union who have been seeking merger with the Education Department.

Ajay Chauhan of the union said a delegation of the union met the BJP chief who responded positively to the demand.

He pointed out that neigbhouring states of Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan had done the same as it was in favour of the government as well. However, the state government was not emulating the move. Aided schoolteachers said the merger of aided schools was almost a win-win situation for the government as it would get 4,300 trained teachers only at the cost of Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,500 per head as this was the share of the 5 per cent which the government would bear for the merger. The state government was already footing 95 per cent of the expenses. The employees of these schools are resentful due to the uncertainty over their future.
