SIT to probe doctors' recruitment scam

The Punjab government on Wednesday notified the constitution of a special investigation team (SIT) under retired IPS officer MS Bali, with the Punjab vigilance bureau (VB chief director Suresh Arora as its member, for a thorough probe into the allegedly scandalous recruitment of doctors at the level of the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC). It was in
2008-09 that the scam had taken place during the recruitment of more than 300 medical officers, when Sanjit Kumar Sinha (who died in 2011) was the PPSC chairman. As the scam remained unprobed, the Punjab and Haryana high court had directed the state to form the SIT, which has been empowered to enquire into the matter within four months. All departments have been issued directions to render assistance to the SIT to complete the task expeditiously, a VB spokesman said here. The SIT would also include an IG-rank officer, four SPs, three DSPs, five inspectors, four SIs, five ASIs, five head constables and 20 constables, the VB spokesman added.
