With a view to providing better health services in government hospitals in the state, the Punjab government has decided to fill the vacant posts of doctors in the next one-and-a-half years. This was disclosed by Punjab health and family welfare minister Surjit Kumar Jyani on Monday after the inauguration of
upgradation of the community health centre at Lehragagga as sub-divisionala hospital. Replying to questions of media persons, Jyani said that Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has taken the issue seriously and the state government would fill 200 vacant posts of doctors, 200 posts of additional doctors, 280 posts of specialist doctors and 560 posts of staff nurses besides other paramedical staff in the next 18 months. The minister further said that the state government was also planning to boost the infrastructure at all government hospitals. Earlier, the health minister, accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, inaugurated Rs. 6 crore upgradation of CHC Lehragagga as sub-dvisional hospital taking its capacity from 30 to 50-bedded hospital. The hospital will have modern health facilities, including OPD, X-rays, lab tests, operation theatre and mortuary, added the minister.
