Rural pharmacists on strike from today

Demanding regularisation of services, nearly 1,100 rural health pharmacists in Punjab will go on indefinite strike from Thursday. In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the Rural Health Pharmacists Association of Punjab reminded chief minister Parkash Singh Badal of his promise of help on this issue. The pharmacists work under the rural
development department. Earlier, the association was on strike for about 40 days, affecting health services in the state. "For the past six years, the pharmacists have been working on a meagre salary of Rs. 7,500 a month each," said association president Kulraj Singh. The services of the doctors and the other employees recruited with them have been regularised and their salaries have increased manifold. The association has threatened to gherao the ministers and government officials.
