459 posts of Principals lying vacant in Govt. Schools of Punjab

By Shilpi JALANDHAR: 459 posts of Principals to be filled in from the quota of Headmasters are lying vacant and the state government had not been taking the matter as serious forcing the Government Schools Head Masters Association to resort to agitation. Interacting with the media here today, Brij Mohan Singh Bedi and Sukhwinder Singh, president and general secretary of the association respectively said that the state government had placed these facts before the Punjab and Haryana High Court also on while disposing a civil writ petition no. 19400 of 2012 (O&M) on July 23, 2013 with the assurance that necessary action would be taken on or before Jan. 31, 2014 to consider all the eligible candidates and make appointments out of the eligible persons to fill in the vacancies. But the government had not initiated any process in this regard, alleged Bedi. He said that the government should complete the DPC by January 15, 2014 to clear way for the elevation of headmasters to the post of principals by Jan 31, 2014 as per
assurance given to the high court. They alleged that the government was creating hurdles in the promotion process of the headmasters by ordering inquiry in to the certificates of qualification and experience of the headmasters even after they had rendered seven years service in the department and too as headmasters. The teacher leaders said that such type of harassments would not be tolerated at all. They alleged that this all was being done to reach benefit to favourites of influential political stalwarts in the state. They said that more than 15 districts of the state had District Science Supervisors who are eligible for the post and they are not even worked as lecturers in the schools. Bathinda District Science Supervisor enjoys the patronage of the state education minister .
