Treat aided schools at-par with government schools :Thukral

Fazilka November 1 :The Health Department has procurement additional medicines worth Rs.34 crore without any demand for free treatment under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scheme which are not required whereas on the other hand sports are being ignored in the schools and sports policy cannot be implemented because of shortage of funds as admitted by Sikandar Singh Malooka, Education Minister.



In fact, the sports has been made a compulsory subject during the academic session 2013-14, in the schools to encourage the students and keep them away from the drugs and 16 sports wing have also been opened for which a diet money of Rs.125 per student is given apart from sports kit for which the amount has been raised from Rs.1500 to Rs.2500.

Moreover, the directions issued for 3 per cent reservation in jobs for sports persons for students of government schools only whereas there is no mention of aided schools that are being given 95 per cent grant by the government.

Expressing his concern, Ajay Thukral, President, Govt. Aided School Union said, “Government is spending crore of rupees on the inauguration of Kabaddi matches, which could be organized in a simple manner and that money could be used for the improving the sports activities in the schools”.

Thukral appealed to the Punjab Government to treat at par the aided schools with government schools and release the funds for the aided schools also to also encourage the students in these schools so that talented students could present their sports skills at the national and international level.
