SSA, RMSA non-teaching staff continue pen-down strike

Bathinda, November 5
The pen-down strike of the Sarv Shiksha Abhiyaan (SSA) and the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyaan (RMSA) Non-Teaching Employees Union entered its 16th day today. The protesters are demanding pay-scales equivalent to that of SSA teachers.

Addressing the employees, union leaders said while the state government had revised the salaries of its politicians this Diwali it does not have money for SSA and RMSA employees. They added that 20,795 contractual teachers working under the SSA and RMSA schemes did not get salaries this Diwali despite the fact that the district headquarters had received the salary budget.

They added that the staff working at the office of Director General of School Education (DGSE), Chandigarh, had also decided to go on strike if their demands were not met. It will give impetus to the pen-down strike going on in the state for the past 16 days.

They added that though during a meeting with members of the union, the Chief Minister and the Education Minister had agreed to their demands in principle, nothing had been done so far.
