PU takes step towards UG semester system, key meet next month

In a significant step towards introduction of semester system in under-graduate (UG) courses at Panjab University’s 188 affiliated colleges, an 18-member committee of various colleges from Punjab and Chandigarh and university officials evolved an “in-principle” approval at a meeting on Monday.

“In principle, all members present agreed that such a move (for semester system) had to be made. We are going to hold another meeting in December in which various sub-committees would be formed to finalise the modalities,” dean, university instructions, Madhu Raka said, adding that the university would try to implement the system from the next academic session (2014-15).

Officials said that it was decided that the modalities be finalised by March, so that the issue could be sent to the PU senate, the apex governing body of the university, the same month for approval.
