Education dept committees on women safety

CHANDIGARH: The Education department has constituted various committees at state and district level to ensure safety and security of women employees’ and student’s in all the schools of the state. Disclosing this here today, the Education & Language Minister Punjab Mr. Sikander Singh Maluka said that the government has taken required measures to ensure complete security and safety of the
women employees as well as the girl students in all the schools. Adding further Minister said that the state level committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Deputy Secretary School Education while Mrs. Pankaj Sharma, Deputy Director School Education would head the committee at the Directorate level. He also said that the District level committee would be headed by senior most District Education Officer or Principal. Separate committees have also been constituted on circle level so that the grievances of the women could be redressed at their level only. In all these committees Member Secretary would be among the women. In District level committee NGOs would be the member secretary. The Minister also said that the Punjab Government was contemplating to inculcate self defense training and confidence building courses for women in schools and colleges with an aim to ensure 100 percent safer environment for women. He said that it was also decided that some aspects of important provisions of IPC pertaining to domestic violence against women and children, harassment at work place act, protection of children from heinous crimes would also be included in the syllabus by the experts in a decent language to the fittest extent.
