Boards: PSEB to conduct practical exams in Feb

In order to declare the results of Classes 10 and 12 exams in time, the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) has decided to conduct the practical exams before written exams. The board declares the results of Class 12 in mid-May and of Class 10 in the first week of June. The practical exams will start from February 15 and written exams from March 1, 2014. Earlier, the board used to conduct practical exams after written exams. Talking to Hindustan Times, Suresh Tandon, vice-chairman of
PSEB, said, "To avoid delay in declaration of results of Classes 10 and 12, we have decided to conduct practical exams before written exams. The idea is to save time as the board will get more time to declare results." When asked that last year several private schools where centres for practical exams were set up lacked proper infrastructure, Tandon said, "While setting up centres for practical examinations we keep in mind that the school has a proper science laboratory and a science teacher and then only the school can conduct practical exams. However, if any school faces any problem in conducting practical exams, we will look into the matter." Anoop Kumar Passi, principal of government model senior secondary school, Cemetery Road, said, "If the board will conduct practical exams before the written ones, students who are appearing for entrance tests will get more time for preparation." A government school teacher on the condition of anonymity said, "This is a good step taken by the board as several students are appearing in entrance exams, which are scheduled in April and they don't get time for preparation. If the practical exams will be conducted in February 2014, students will get time to prepare for entrance tests." Punjab board to follow CBSE pattern The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) is following the pattern of the Central Board of Secondary Education, as the latter conducts practical exams before written ones in February and now, the PSEB will follow suit.
