Over 2,000 employees hold rally against UT admn

The unions of different departments of the UT administration staged a rally to press the administration for their demands here on Thursday. More than 2,000 employees working in different departments took part in the rally held at Sector 17, seeking release of dearness allowance (DA), bonus and other issues related to pay scales. Employees' and Workers' Union, Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) Workers' Union, Haryana Sarv Karamchari Sangh and UT Health Contractual Employees' Union were among the many bodies that participated in the rally. The members of the unions raised slogans against the administration and demanded that their genuine demands should be addressed at the earliest. Gopal Dutt Joshi, general secretary UT Powermen Union, said they joined the strike to showcase solidarity with the central trade union. He criticised the Chandigarh administration for negative attitude towards the demands of the employees. Joshi said enhancement of retirement age from 58 years to 60 years and revision of pay scale were pending since long and employees have been forced to observe two-day strike on October 29 and 30. He also demanded that the administration should release the DA and bonus to UT employees, besides regularisation of daily wage workers and warned that if the demands of the employees were not implemented then the trade union would intensify its struggle. Later, a joint memorandum was submitted to the adviser to the administrator for his intervention and implementation of demands
