Ludhiana, October 16
To bring improvement in the Mid-Day Meal Scheme in Punjab, which has always remained in controversies for one reason or the other, Education Minister Sikandar Singh Maluka is planning to visit Tamil Nadu with the officials of the Education Department to study their successful model of the Mid-Day Meal Scheme.

Talking to The Tribune, Maluka said that he recently came to know how that Mid-Day Meal Scheme was a success in Tamil Nadu. “We will seek permission from the state government to visit Tamil Nadu. Apart from the Central Government’s aid, the state government is also putting large share in the Mid-Day Meal Scheme,” said the minister.

He said Tamil Nadu government was putting an approximately share of Rs 1,000 crore in Mid-Day Meal Scheme because the number of students Tamil Nadu’s school was three times higher than that of Punjab.

“If we go by that, we will have to put at least Rs 200 crore to bring improvement in food and uniforms being supplied to the students. The Central Government is providing Rs 400 for the uniform of one student, which is too less, especially in winters. Still, we wish to study the scheme there,” said Maluka.
