Maluka to teachers: Show results or face strict action

Maluka to teachers: Show results or face strict action “Our teachers are probably the best paid, but still some do not work… they send their children to private schools” sikandar singh maluka, Education Minister warns of chargesheet, transfer, suspension if 20 pC success rate Rajay Deep

Chandigarh Education Minister Sikandar Singh Maluka has sounded an alarm for the kith and kin of all “high and mighty” working as teachers in the state schools to get ready for facing the music if their performance is rated below 20 per cent. “Even if one is a relative of a top
bureaucrat or a politician, even including mine, no one would be spared if he or she falls in the category of poor performance,” Maluka said. The Minister has decided that teachers with 20 per cent or less success rate will be chargesheeted, transferred and even suspended, depending upon the level of “negligence” of the accused. Interacting with Daily Post on Saturday, Maluka said that he had sought the performance report of all over one lakh teachers posted at government schools across the state. Claiming that the salary structure of teachers in Punjab was the best as compared with other states, he said, “It gives me immense pain to notice that despite all facilities, still some of them do not work… they send their children to private schools as they do not trust their own schools.” He added, “Now, things are very much clear. If the teachers can’t show good results, they will have to face disciplinary action. And this time, no pressure tactic is going to work as I have already taken the consent of the Chief Minister on the matter.” Taking serious note of the 2012 results, when Mohali district was at the bottom in the chart, the state Education Department had initiated the move to transfer them. However, the process was halted midway as most of those facing action managed to stall the process. The Minister also declared that no political activity by a teacher would be tolerated. “Higher officials have already been asked to keep a track on the conduct of the teachers,” said Maluka. Meanwhile, DPI (Secondary Education) Kamal Garg said, “Following the directions of the Education Minister, we have issued the orders to all concerned to provide us with the details of poorly performing teachers. We expect the list to be compiled within a few days.”
