DA despite what Centre said: FM Punjab

Chandigarh:Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa put the Congress MLAs in a piquant situation on Wednesday, disclosing that despite the Union Ministry’s communication that the state was not bound to give Dearness Allowance (DA) to its employees, the SAD-BJP government resolved not to do injustice with the its employees by following the Centre’s
suggestion. “Aimed at snubbing the state government, here you people claim to be the protectees of employees but in Delhi, your party leaders change the tone and tenor. Now, when I went to the Centre to ask about the two-year pendency of Rs 621 crore under different heads, the Union Minister rather than releasing the amount sent me back with yet another suggestion that granting revised DA was not mandatory for the states to follow,” said Dhindsa, which put a pause to the loud Opposition. Dhindsa had stood up to reply to a query posed by Congress MLAs Charanjit Singh Channi and Parminder Singh Pinki, who had sought details about the state’s stand on releasing the DA to government employees. Speaking on the issue, the Finance Minister disclosed that the state government, on the pattern of Central government, had released 8 per cent Dearness Allowance (DA) from July on October 25. He mentioned that the matter regarding release of 10 per cent DA was also under consideration of the government. Replying to the second question of the Congress MLAs, Dhinda said that instructions for release of 30 per cent arrears of revised pay-scales of employees in November had already been issued by the Finance Department in May this year.
