College teachers seek promotions

Leaders of the local unit of Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers’ Union (PCCTU) met the Director Higher Education (DHE) to press for their demands. Around 50 representatives of the seven aided colleges in the city reached the UT Secretariat.

A delegation of five union leaders met the official, Gurpreet Kaur Sapra, and Sp
ecial Secretary, Finance, Bhawana Garg.

They are demanding promotions, increments and past-service benefits which have been pending for years.

Prof Iqbal Preet Kaur, convener, PCCTU, said: “The DHE assured the delegation that the cases of promotion and counting of back service will be cleared soon. She informed us that the department was aware of the delay, and was working on it.”

Prof Ghanshyam Dev, president of the local unit, said the DHE had agreed to look into pending PhD /MPhil increments.
