The mid-day meal workers, along with Class 4 employees' union, staged a protest against the state government at Chattar Singh Park on Sunday. The protesters raised slogans against the government and marched till Bharat Nagar Chowk, where they were stoped by police
The main demands of the mid-day meal workers are regular jobs and implementation of minimum wages Act.

Daljit Kaur, senior vice-president of mid-day meal workers' union, said, “We are getting a meagre salary of `1,200 per month. We have to cook food for hundreds of students daily. The cooks must get at least `5,768 as salary and their services should be regularised.”

One of the mid-day meal workers, Radha, said, “I am working as a cook in a government school for the last three years and getting `1,200 per month, which is not sufficient to run the house. I have to cook food for 650 students daily. The Punjab government must provide us salary as per the minimum wages Act.”
