14 new IIITs to be established, Shashi Tharoor says

NEW DELHI: The government has approved the establishment of 14 new Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT), Parliament was told on Wednesday.

"Under the approved scheme of setting up 20 IIITs on a not-for-profit public-private partnership, the central government has given approval for establishment in 14 states," Minister of state for human resource development Shashi Tharoor said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.

Haryana govt hikes dearness relief for its pensioners and family

66 arrested SSA/RMSA teachers released

The City Police has released the 66 teachers arrested for staging a protest at the Grain Market on the Jalandhar bypass on February 2.

The teachers, working under the Sarav Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), were demanding regularisation of their jobs.

Adarsh school recovers salaries ‘inadvertently’ paid to teachers

The Punjab Education Development Board (PEDB) has recovered three months’ salary from five women teachers of an Adarsh school that was paid to them “inadvertently” during their paid maternity leave.

Assam govt to fill up over 1 lakh vacancies

Guwahati, Feb. 13 (PTI) Assam government will provide employment to over one lakh people across various departments in the future, the state Assembly was told today. Presenting the 2014-15 interim budget, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said, "I have asked all the departments to provide appointments against all available vacancies numbering around 1,00,927 in a time-bound manner." Staff resent non-payment of salaries Teachers have to provide eatables to students, lament poor economic health

Even as the state government is gearing up for a mega event to mark the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the war memorial here on Wednesday, employees of various departments are lamenting non-payment of salaries.

Staff at a majority of government schools have not been paid salaries since December. It is affecting academic and other routine work at these schools. Though the mid-day meal for the schools situated in the municipal corporation limit has been outsourced to one NGO but its working has been affected in rural areas, said office-bearers of the Democratic Teachers Front (DTF). They said teachers were forced to arrange eatables and other articles on their own to continue providing meals to students. They said it would have been nice that the state government had cleared pending dues before holding a mega event.

HC: Candidates seeking revaluation can apply for job

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has made it clear that from now on, candidates will be able to apply for government jobs even if they have not cleared the qualifying examination, but have applied for re-evaluation before the last date for submitting forms.

Education Dept flayed for changing promotion norms

The Government Teachers’ Union (GTU) has hit out at the Punjab Education Department for adopting double standards with regard to the promotion of teachers.

“The Department has issued show-cause notices to the newly promoted lecturers after it prepared a rehashed subject-wise seniority list, while it has promoted masters to headmasters on the basis of cadre-based seniority list,” union president Prem Rakker said.
