14 new IIITs to be established, Shashi Tharoor says

NEW DELHI: The government has approved the establishment of 14 new Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT), Parliament was told on Wednesday.

"Under the approved scheme of setting up 20 IIITs on a not-for-profit public-private partnership, the central government has given approval for establishment in 14 states," Minister of state for human resource development Shashi Tharoor said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.

Central Government is expected to ask the seventh pay commission to consider merging 50% dearness allowance

In a bid to woo central government employees ahead of General Elections, the UPA government is expected to ask the seventh pay commission to consider merging 50% dearness allowance with basic pay of the employees. This will form part of the terms of reference (ToR) for the Commission, to be considered by the Cabinet this week. The Commission may suggest interim relief as well. Officials said the ToR of the Pay Commission

Will absorb local govt teachers, state tells HC

Teachers working in schools managed by the state local government now stand a chance of being appointed in the Education Department on a transfer basis. The State of Punjab has assured the Punjab and Haryana High Court that they will also be absorbed as per the requirement in the districts.

Computer teachers plan to gherao CM

Computer teachers decided to hold a state-level rally on February 23 at a meeting held here today. Leaders of the Computer Teachers’ Union said despite being regularised, they were not being given many benefits and allowances received by the other regular teachers. The union leaders demanded that they should be brought under the Education Department.
